Communications is one of the most vital services for the police, emergency medical service and fire department. It is considered the life line of the city. Communications provide emergency and non-emergency service dispatching to the citizens of Pampa on a 24 hour basis.
Communications is the critical link between the citizens in need and the responding personnel. Emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance are received through ‘Enhanced 9-1-1' and non-emergency phone lines.
Communications also assist the hearing-impaired callers through the Telephone Devise for the Deaf (TDD) phone line. They provide reassurance and understanding to the citizen in need when an emergency occurs.
In addition, communications also check persons for warrants and criminal histories, as well as property to determine if it is stolen by utilizing the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) database.
The City of Pampa currently has 8 Communication Operators that work ten hour shifts. |
