SUSPECT IN STOLEN VEHICLE LEADS POLICE ON A HIGH SPEED CHASE
PAMPA , TEXAS –
At around 9:46 A.M., Friday, June 06, 2008 Pampa PD Detective Dave Thomas was investigating a stolen vehicle report when he saw the 2002 White Mazda Miata in the 1800 block of Hamilton Street. After turning over his red lights the car pulled up into a driveway in the 1800 block of Hamilton. As Det. Thomas approached the car on foot and was asking the driver to exit the car, the driver put the car in gear and took off across the yard and back onto Hamilton Street south bound. Det. Thomas then pursued the vehicle north on Perryton Parkway / Hwy 70. Gray County Constable Chris Lockridge then became involved in the pursuit. The pursuit continued north on Hwy 70 in excess of 120 MPH from Gray County into Roberts County and then into Ochiltree County where DPS and Sheriff's Deputies from Roberts and Ochiltree Counties got involved. At approximately 18 miles south of Perryton on Hwy 70 the vehicle ran over a set of road spikes placed by the Ochiltree County Sheriff. The vehicle then continued north on 70 for approximately 2 miles before turning east onto County Road W where the driver pulled off of the road and surrendered. Jessie Richard Salley age 23 of Pampa was taken into custody without further incident. He was taken to Ochiltree County Jail where he was arraigned and transported back to Gray County Jail on the charge of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Other charges are being filed after officers found two handguns and what appears to be a military issue body armor vest in the vehicle. It is a felony crime for a convicted felon to be in possession of both the body armor and the handguns. Investigators are still investigating the case.
