The SRO program commenced as a joint effort between the City of Pampa and the Pampa Independent School District to staff a full-time police officer responsible specifically to the schools. The SRO is under the direct supervision of the police department. The School Resource Officer (S.R.O.) creates a unity between the Pampa Police Department and the Pampa Independent School District.
The primary purpose of the S.R.O. is to provide a safe and secure environment conducive to learning in the Pampa ISD school campuses. To reduce crime and incidents in schools, officers establish rapports with the students, parents and staff. The SRO patrols the schools and teaches many educational programs.
